2 Tips To Help Prevent Further Tooth Decay After Getting A Tooth Colored Filling

Posted on

If you suffer from cavities, then you can get your tooth filled with a number of different materials. One of the most common materials to use is a tooth-colored filling. these fillings work just as well as metal fillings and blend in with your natural tooth color. However, tooth colored fillings are not as durable as more traditional options. Once your tooth is filled, it is important to take care of it to prevent further decay. If further decay does occur, then you may need to get your damaged tooth fitted for a dental crown. Fortunately, there are a few tips that you can use to help prevent further decay after fitting your tooth colored filling.

Use a Salt Rinse After Every Meal

Salt rinses are usually recommended after oral surgery in order to keep the surgical area bacteria free. However, they can also be used after getting your tooth colored filling in order to keep your tooth free of contaminants. The salt rinse is best used when you finish eating. This will allow the rinse to clean around your tooth and gum area. You can create your own rinse at home by taking a cup of hot water and dissolving a few spoonfuls of regular salt in the cup. Mix the rinse around with a spoon to ensure that the salt is able to completely dissolve, then work it in and out of your mouth. Allow the salt rinse to sit in your mouth for a few minutes while using your cheeks to move it around.

Floss At the End of Every Day

Poor flossing habits is an easy way to promote further tooth decay after your tooth colored filling has been installed. Flossing allows you to remove buildup that may be hidden between your teeth and near the root of your tooth. Therefore, you should try your best to floss at the end of every day in order to properly get rid of leftover food. You can use traditional floss or you can use a water flosser. A water flosser will work better to clean your mouth if you have any dental restorations installed.

If you experience further tooth decay after getting your teeth filled, then this decay can often spread to nearby teeth. This is often difficult to get rid of without extensive dental work. Therefore, use these tips to make sure that your tooth remains healthy well after the filling is complete.
